New Project S14

So here it is, my new project for 2013.  The ugliest Green Bomber 240sx you can probably find.  But, It runs great, engine and tranny are smooth. It's currently running the stock ka24DE engine, and It has a couple of mods including headers, egr delete, intake, and strut tower brace.  I got a hell of a deal on it.  I talked the guy down from $3200, down to $1800, it was awesome!

A few things that need to be fixed/changed right away:
  • Purple center cluster - Someone painted it and its ugly as hell.
  • Drivers door - Its sagging, and the window motor isn't working, and the door lock fell inside the door.
  • Springs/Struts - It's on chopped springs, so it rides like shit.
  • Exhaust leak on the header to downpipe - It's missing one of the three bolts
  • Steering wheel - Its a cheap racing one and is falling apart
I know I know, total piece of crap, but its a project and that's what its all about.

Future Plans:  LS1 with T56 Swap.  For those that don't know, basically its stuffing a Corvette motor in the engine bay, and tripling the horsepower of the car.  It will be a total beast.

Stay tuned!

S14 Bomber Project Update #1 - Fixing Things

So, of course I had to mess with the car as soon as I got it.  I worked on fixing a few things, namely the purple center console piece.  I immediately ripped it out and painted it with My Rustoleum High Gloss Plastics paint.  15 minutes later, it looked much better.

Before & After:

After that was fixed, Chase and I washed the car (Thanks to Miguel for letting us borrow the pressure washer).  The car looks about as good as it will for a while.  I'm still deciding on whether I will do a Kouki front end swap, and whether or not I'll get it painted or try my hand at Vinyl Wrapping.

After the car wash, I ripped off the door panel to fix the door lock (the handle was loose and the lock was inside the door)  and to try repairing the window.  After about 30 minutes, and a little help from my wife, I had the door lock fixed.  Now the window not rolling up is another story.  I don't know what the hell is the deal with that. It will roll down, but not up.  I can hear it trying but it doesn't budge.

Door panel off, Fam hanging out while I was working

Of course I bought a few things for it already.  That'll be in the next post.  I'd like to get some vids as well.

S14 Bomber Project Update #2 - Steering Wheel Install

So my Ebay Steering wheel finally came in.  I'm liking it so far, its much better than the old one that was in there. $35 shipped, and it took like 3 days to arrive.  Not too Shabby.

New One

See this vid:

Also, I bought some KYB GR2's with Eibach Proline Springs, which should fix the chopped ride and raise it up a bit.  I've been hitting all kinds of stuff with this car being so low.  The install will be in the next post.

S14 Bomber Project Update #3 - Audio Fun & Some Suspension Work

So I made some progress today.  Its the first day in the last five that it wasn't raining consistently.  First, I opened my shiny new package of Subwoofer wiring that I bought from Wally for $25.  I have to have some beats in this car.  :)
Anyway, so I ripped out the miscellaneous trim pieces and carpet, to run the cable through to the back in the trunk.  It was pretty straightforward, and I found a nice open spot on the firewall to put the power cable off the battery through inside the vehicle. Also, I installed one of the Kicker 6" speakers I bought ( $65) I the rear of the car, the other will go in the front left.  I know seems strange, but its only because there were speakers missing and I didn't feel like taking one of the others out.
Then, I started attacking the KYB GR2 / Eibach Proline install.  I removed the rears with ease, and then forgot that I needed a spring compressor to install.  So, I'll have to run to AutoZone tomorrow to rent/borrow the spring compressors, then I can finish the install tomorrow and will finish up my install vid as well.
Oh, and I also purchased a Dual 10" sub box off Ebay today ($40) for my Rockfords, it should be here by Thursday.

Progress...

S14 Bomber Project Update #4: Troubles in the Neighborhood

Ok, so there really isn't any troubles in the neighborhood, but I did have a lot of issues getting the damn car to start.  For two weeks I was trying to figure out what was causing my car not to turn over.  I check all of the fuses, relays, and double-checked all of my wiring.  Everything looked good, but the car just would not turn over at all.
I then replaced the battery, just in case the other was low.  Still, it didn't do anything. Then I took out the starter and had it tested at AutoZone.  (See Pic)  It tested out fine, so I had to bolt it back up.

At this point I was confused and pissed, but I found an article on how to hot-wire the starter, which is to run a wire from the starter signal wire to the positive battery post.  This bypasses the ignition wiring, and connects the starter directly to power.  Once I did this it fired right up.

Knowing that there is something wrong with my ignition switch or wiring, I decided on going the cheap route ( For Now) and wired in a switch between both sides of the wiring.  I kept the switch in the engine bay for a coupke days just to make sure there weren't any fires.  This made it a real pain in the ass to start the car, because I'd have to put it in neutral, pull the parkingbrake, and turn the key to the "On" position.  Then, I'd have to pop the trunk, flip the switch, start the car, the shut off the switch and close the hood.  Believe me this got old real quick.

So today I finally wired in the switch into the Cabin, and bought a push button start off Ebay for $7.50 to make this a little cleaner.

S14 Bomber Project Update #5: Rides So Much Better

During my issues witht he car not turning over, I was able to get something done.  I finally was able to install the KYB GR2/Eibach Proline Struts & Springs.  Man, it feels like a completely different car.  It feels nice and tight like my 350z did, and I can take corners as fast as I like.  Such a huge difference over the cut springs.  Also, I don't scrape on every single bump like it did before.
Also, I ordered a set of Megan Racing Engine & Transmission Polyurethane Mounts to tighten up the car even more.  They should be here mid week and I'll do a video on the install and get some pics.

Here are some pics of the KYB install and Vids:
